We're located in...Our work takes place in Honduras. Our CEO is located in Pasco County.
Our mission is...BECA exists to provide quality, affordable bilingual education to the educationally disenfranchised while fostering meaningful cultural exchange.
We serve...BECA serves over 650 Honduran children every year by them with a high-quality bilingual education in their home country as a vehicle and long-term investment to break the cycle of poverty in their home country. BECA is a 501©3 organization that recruits, trains, and supports English-speaking volunteer teachers to staff a network of community-run bilingual schools in Honduras that serve low-income communities.

Our greatest accomplishment last year was...Graduating our first graduating class of 9th graders from one of our partnering schools in rural Honduras, Santa Monica Bilingual School.

After close to twenty-years of providing a high-quality bilingual education within a multicultural partnership, BECA  has reached a crossroads in which we need to build out our capacity for a new generation of Honduran leaders.

To that regard,  we need to scale up our infrastructure in the areas of board development, fund development,  curriculum development, the ongoing capacity building/professional development of our Honduran and international teachers.

Our first step in this strategic initiative is to build our board's capacity-- we are seeking new board members who are passionate about our mission, multicultural education, social justice, and intercultural understanding.

Our ideal candidate is...

Our ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about our mission and who will act as a local ambassador for BECA's work in rural and semi-rural Honduras.  We seek individuals who have a large network and who are eager to share their passion for BECA's work with their friends, family members, colleagues, and associates.

We truly believe that together, we can create a better world for all, especially for those living in poverty in Honduras.

BECA would welcome new board members who have experience on other governing boards of directors, and who have expertise in accounting/finance, communications,  and fundraising.

Our current board size is...4
We meet (when and where)...we meet once per month on a video call using ZOOM. We hope to move our calls to quarterly calls. We also host an annual retreat once per year.
The time commitment is...2-3 hours per month.
