Great Explorations Children's Museum has been serving our community for over 33 years. We are proud to be the place where St Petersburg comes to learn and play!
Great Explorations is the very first mid-sized Children’s Museum accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, holding the highest honor a museum can receive. This puts us in the same company as museums such the Smithsonian, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and locally the Dali. Because of this recognition, last year our tourism rate sky rocketed by 42%.
But we are not only a just a hands on children museum. We also offer a preschool for children two -through five years old and educational programming for children kindergarten through fifth grade. Partnering with Pinellas County school system to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and unstructured education. Drawing educational content from the arts, sciences, and humanities, Great Explorations programs and exhibits encourage creative thinking, problem-solving, and discovery. Exhibits invite the participant to touch and explore or role play. Program lessons are presented in a multidisciplinary context and interactive style. We stimulate learning through hands-on interaction in the world of the child.
Through our STEAM Team outreach programs last year, we donated $750,000 of in kind service back to our community. Great Explorations has developed impactful community partnerships with local non-profits serving children. Every effort is made to create access to museum programming for all of the children in our community ensuring that low income and at risk children have equal opportunities to participate in the museum’s educationally enriching programming.
In addition to outreach and community partners we also provide countless opportunities at the museum for low income, disadvantaged children through the following methods: Free School Field Trips, Free Memberships and Passes, Free Educational Outreach activities, Free Event and meeting hosting, Camp Scholarships, Preschool Scholarships and more. Our goal is to create access to educationally enriching programming for every child in our community.
Great Explorations is the place where ALL children can learn and play, regardless of varying abilities or socioeconomic status. We have programs for toddlers, children with special needs and their families, and our newest program Memory Mondays for adults with memory loss.
By joining the board of Great Explorations Children's Museum, you could contribute to serving our community by stimulating learning through creativity, play, and exploration.
