Session 1: Perfect Your Pitch

If you bumped into your dream funder or dream boss in an elevator and had two uninterrupted minutes, could you land the funds or the job? You could after this course — the first in a three-part series — to perfect your pitch.

A focused, compelling pitch helps supporters and stakeholders “catch the vision.” Whether you’re a supervisor or CEO with people to lead, a fundraiser, an entrepreneur or someone with a big idea to pitch, telling a focused story is the fastest way to achieve buy-in and active support.

In this class, you will explore the essential elements of creating the perfect pitch. At the end of the session, you’ll complete your personalized action plan to:

  • Craft a compelling pitch that drives innovation and support
  • Create personal and professional opportunities to enhance your story
  • Use key elements of an effective pitch to share your story with multiple stakeholders and potential partners
  • Learn about the key elements of your pitch deck and how to align your story with various audiences
  • Learn the fundamental principles of a powerful elevator pitch to get your message across
  • Craft key deliverables to lead effective meetings

Session 2: Master the Art of Storytelling

Since the beginning of time, storytelling has been one of the most effective ways to deliver your message, inspire others and motivate people to act.

Storytelling is, at times, an overlooked tool in your leadership and innovation skill set. Your story is how you talk about your “why” — both your personal and organizational purpose or reason for being — and the way you craft stories is critical to developing powerful personal and organizational brands.

In this second class, you will explore the essential elements to craft your story and set clear ways to tie your story to your goals. At the end of the session, you’ll complete your personalized action plan to:

  • Create personal and professional opportunities to enhance your story
  • Craft and present your personal story and how it relates to your professional work
  • Revisit your “why” and develop strategies to convey it to meaningful audiences
  • Learn how to incorporate your story into various contexts to build relationships, earn support and effect ground-breaking change
  • Learn how to use storytelling to inspire and motivate your internal and external stakeholders toward action

Session 3: Elevate Your Brand

Virtual-September 2, 2021 8:30 am-12:30 pm EST

Now that you have an effective and clear pitch, a compelling story and a clear understanding of your “why,” this final session in our three-part series will teach you how to use all the tools to deliver your message and reach meaningful audiences.

One of the most effective ways to convey your message is through social media and public relations.

In this workshop, you will explore and define the influence you want to convey in your community and discuss strategies and tools to strengthen and leverage your personal brand. This includes creating a list of personal and professional assets, developing your personal brand statement and creating your quarterly personal branding goals and tactics to achieve each.

Specifically, you will learn …

  • How to connect your story and your organization’s message to your key message
  • Develop simple strategies to become a thought leader in your field
  • Audit your personal and professional assets
  • Learn key practices and tools to help you leverage your influence to drive support to your organization
  • Build and manage your marketing network
  • Create a simple PR strategy to make yourself visible in order to enhance the visibility of your organization
  • How to tell your story through key messages that are aligned with your values

Tammy Charles is a native of New York and she graduated top of her business class in 2012 from the University of Tampa with Magna Cum Laude distinction in Business Management. She later received her MBA and Nonprofit Leadership Certificate in 2016. Recently she was accepted the prestigious University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Social Impact Strategy Executive Certificate Program. Currently, Tammy is the CEO and Chief Strategist at TMC Strategies where her mission is to empower, equip, and inspire business leaders, entrepreneurs, and organizations to provide high-impact solutions to the community’s most pressing issues. She desires to provide these organizations with the best opportunities to grow while growing the leaders in the process. She is also the Founder and Chief Ecosystem Architect for Tampa Bay Spark, LLC. — a social enterprise focused on leveraging innovation, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and social impact to spark change in Tampa Bay’s entrepreneurial economy.

Tammy is an Adjunct Professor at Hillsborough Community College where she is teaching Principles of Management and Introduction to Business. She is also a full-time professor and Lead Faculty Member Coach at Ultimate Medical Academy where she is teaching Accounting and Business Management to healthcare students. As a highly engaged member of the community, Charles is an active leader with multiple organizations. She is a graduate of Mayor’s Neighborhood University — a community leadership development program for Tampa residents. She is a board member for the Everyday Entrepreneur Venture Fund at Hillsborough Community College. She is the Founder and Director of Women in Leadership — a ministry dedicated to empowering women to utilize their God- given gifts and skills to lead and pursue their calling. In addition, she is a trainer with Operation Startup, where she helps entrepreneurs craft their pitch to build and scale their businesses.

Charles has received numerous awards and accolades including receiving the prestigious 2018 Deanne Dewey Roberts Emerging Leader Award with the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce becoming the first woman of color in the Chamber’s history to receive this honor. She was the 2019 Co-Chair for the Tampa Organization of Black Affair’s MLK Leadership Breakfast. She has also received the 2014 President Bill Clinton’s Commitment to Action Award, 2016 Tampa Bay Business Journal’s Up and Comer Award for the Under 30 Category, 2017 New Leaders Council Fellow, was a finalist for the 2016 Tampa Chamber’s Deanne Dewey Roberts Emerging Leader Award and was honored by The University of Tampa with the 2017 Young Alumnus Award for her professional accomplishments and civic engagement. She was also nominated for the Best Networker Award with Creative Loafing.

She has been featured in numerous media outlets and publications such as Fox 13, Bay News 9, Tampa Bay Times, Tampa Bay Business Journal, Make it Tampa Bay Feature, Tampa Bay: Do It, Live It, Love It, St. Pete Catalyst, Florida Sentinel, ABC Action News, the UT Journal, and Tampa Bay Newswire, Soul Media Podcast, and 83 degrees Media.
