How do I make an appointment to visit Nonprofit Leadership Center?
If you wish to visit, please call the office at (813) 287-8779 to make an appointment with a member of the staff. This will ensure that someone will be able to assist you when you arrive.

How does Nonprofit Leadership Center define the Tampa Bay area?
When referring to the Tampa Bay area, we include the following counties:

  • Hillsborough County
  • Pinellas County
  • Polk County
  • Pasco County
  • Hernando County

We welcome organizations from any county to join us for a program!

What is an MSO?
An MSO is a Management Support Organization whose primary goal is to teach nonprofit board, staff, and volunteers the knowledge and skills needed to operate their organizations according to best practices. MSOs teach all aspects of nonprofit operations such as board governance, financial management, executive management, and fund development.

What is capacity building?
Capacity building is the process of developing and strengthening the skills, instincts, abilities, processes, and resources that organizations and communities need to survive, adapt, and thrive in the fast changing world of the 21st century. Capacity building refers to an array of actions and activities that organizations undertake to strengthen their ability to operate effectively over the long term.

How do I register for a class?
Visit our Training Calendar to see our current schedule. When you see a class you’re interested in, click on the title to be taken to the class details and registration page. Click “register” on the class details page and complete the required information. If you need assistance during the registration process, please call our office at 813-287-8779.

Who can I call for help with the registration process?
Anyone in the office will be happy to help you. Call our office at (813) 287-8779, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Or send an email.

Why must I answer so many questions about my agency when I register for training?
The questions asked during registration help us better understand the types of organizations that we are serving and develop relevant programs. The information is also used for funding reporting purposes. If you are uncomfortable providing the information there is an N/A choice available.

What if I cannot attend a class I signed up for using a CBHC code?
The Children’s Board of Hillsborough County (CBHC) has asked NLC to reframe our no-show policy for their providers.

Effective July 1, CBHC-funded organizations using codes to claim CBHC-funded seats at NLC trainings or events will be responsible for payment of registration and processing fees in the event of a no-show.

For agencies currently funded by Children’s Board of Hillsborough County (CBHC) and for individuals attending an NLC training using a promo code to reserve a CBHC-funded seat:

If you are unable to attend the training, you must notify Lorraine Faithful at NLC by phone at 813-287-8779 or email at info@nlctb.org a minimum of three business days prior to the training date.

You have two options:

  • You may name a substitute to use the seat (we require that substitute’s full name, title, and email address)
  • You may cancel your registration.

Failure to show and/or failure to provide at least three-day notice to NLC will result in your agency receiving an invoice for the full class registration fee in addition to a $25.00 processing fee. This invoice will be payable 30 days after receipt.

How can I learn more about training programs?
The current schedule can be viewed by clicking “TRAINING” on the navigation bar. Sign up for our mailing list to receive email updates on classes. You can also call our office at (813) 287-8779, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a to 4:30 pm. Or send an email.

Do I have to be employed by a nonprofit agency to attend a training program?
No, you do not need to be employed by a nonprofit agency to attend training. We welcome anyone interesting in learning more about any of our topics.

Can I attend a training program without pre-registering?
Pre-registration is encouraged to ensure you have a seat and materials. Space permitting, we do allow you to register on-site on the day of the training.

What if I need special assistance?
If you need special assistance to participate in any of our classes or events, please contact us at 813-287-8779.

Is there a discount when multiple people from my agency register for one training at the same time?
Most programs have a ten percent (10%) discount for multiple registrants from one agency when registered at the same time. See the specific program page to see if the discount applies to that program.

What happens if my check bounces?
NLC subscribes to ReSubmitIt, which means that you will agree to the following: In the event your check is dishonored or returned for any reason, you authorize us to electronically (or by paper draft) re-present the check to your bank account for collection of the amount of the check, plus any applicable fees as permitted by state law.

What is the $25.00 administrative fee if I cancel?
The $25.00 administrative fee covers processing costs related to registration.

What sources of scholarship funds may be available for training programs?
See each individual program listing for information on how to apply for a scholarship if they are available. Allegany Franciscan Ministries may have funds available through their capacity building scholarships. Apply online at http://www.afmfl.org.

How can I learn about becoming a trainer?
Our trainers are experienced professionals who volunteer their time to teach programs on our behalf. They develop the curriculum and materials, and we facilitate the program and develop the marketing materials. We ask that potential trainers propose a program idea that you feel we are currently not offering. If it is something we feel would benefit our participants, we would then schedule a trainer audition where we would ask that you present a 15 minute preview. This audition is used to ensure the quality of our trainers that our participants expect. After that we will discuss ideas and proceed if both parties feel it would be a mutually beneficial relationship.

How can I post a nonprofit job to the Job Board?
Effective October 1, 2018, a nonprofit job may be posted to the NLC Job Board for a period of 30 days for a $50 fee. The posting may be renewed for an additional 30 days for $35. There is no limit to the number of times a nonprofit job posting may be renewed.

You must have a free account on our site in order to post nonprofit job openings. If you do not already have a free account, please click here to create one. A free account will allow you to track and edit your nonprofit job postings; track NLC classes and conferences attended; and allow faster registration for programs. If you have any problems accessing or creating your account, please call us at (813) 287-8779.

Please note: NLC reserves the right to remove job postings. Each nonprofit job listing will only be posted for 30 days, after which you will have the option to renew the posting or to allow the posting to expire.
