Description / Details:

Assists in the recording of accounting activity and preparation of financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.  Responsibilities also include assisting accounting department with various other accounting activities.

**This is a hybrid position located in Tampa area. Salary starting at $65,000** 

SENIOR ACCOUNTANT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with account reconciliations and preparing general ledger entries to properly reflect account activity in a timely manner. 
  • Reconcile bank and investment statements and record applicable general ledger entries.
  • Maintain spreadsheets and reconciliations for various general ledger accounts.
  • Maintain fixed asset listing including Construction in Progress and related depreciation for all CHN assets.
  • Reconcile due to/from accounts monthly.
  • Prepare annual entries per budget for prepaid expenses, occupancy, G&A, and other allocations. 
  • Prepare monthly and year-end accruals as assigned.
  • Prepare general ledger entries for recognition of release of restricted revenue activity monthly.
  • Assists with audit work paper preparation and fieldwork requests from financial auditors. 
  • Assist with CHN insurance renewals. 
  • Prepare report for unclaimed property as needed. 
  • Back up Staff Accountant, Revenue Manager, and Director of Finance duties as needed. 
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to staff. 
  • Assist in development and maintenance of financial internal controls and procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget, retirement plan audit, completion of annual tax filings and financial audit.
  • Assist with preparing statistical and dashboard reports and other ad hoc reporting for management and auditors. 
  • Participate in required training.
  • Assist Revenue Manager with research and implementation of compliance requirements for all grants and contracts. 
  • Assist Revenue Manager with maintenance of master listing of all revenue contracts/grants as well as grant and other reimbursement contract documents in
  • accordance with contract requirements and CHN policies, ensuring files and records accurately document related activity.
  • Assist Revenue Manager with monthly, quarterly, and annual documentation submission to funding agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.  

SENIOR ACCOUNTANT MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with minimum of three years accounting experience required.  Non-Profit Experience and CPA preferred.  
  • Must be competent in utilization of Microsoft Office products, with emphasis on advanced Excel skills.  
  • Experience with computerized accounting ledger systems and payroll systems necessary.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license with no record of criminal driving offense of license suspension.  
  • Must possess means of providing job related transportation and show proof of required insurance. Must be insurable under Children’s Home Network insurance policy.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours when occasionally required  
  • Must successfully complete and maintain FDLE clearance, Federal background and state criminal background check and sexual predator screening.
  • Must successfully complete FDLE Clearance, Federal background and state criminal background check and sexual predator screening.

SENIOR ACCOUNTANT COMPETENCIES & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

Annual Training Requirements: The following training topics are required annually: Prevention of Sexual Harassment, Blood-borne Pathogens, Workplace Accident Prevention and Reporting, Confidentiality and Privacy Practices, Diversity/Cultural Competency, Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporter Statutes and Methods, Crisis Prevention, and Program Goals.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies:

  • Solid understanding of general ledger, payroll, and fixed asset systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the accounting cycle and accounting rules (GAAP/FASB).
  • Excellent organizational, time management and follow-up skills; demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; proven ability to clearly communicate complex financial concepts to a non-financial leaders within the organization.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of unrestricted and restricted revenue sources.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data in order to produce reports and make improvement recommendations.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills and financial modeling and familiarity with ERP accounting software.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent financial and analytical skills; strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with multiple accounting software packages and capacity to learn new packages.
  • Must be able to conduct oneself in a manner that promotes professionalism and teamwork throughout the Agency, setting an example for others to follow.
  • Responsibility for highly confidential and sensitive information requires ethics and professionalism beyond reproach.
  • Must be able to cooperatively interact with co-workers so as to promote an effective, productive work unit

Supervision Received:

Supervision is provided by the Director of Finance in the form of one-on-one supervision and regular staff meetings.
