Job Title: Director of Finance
Location: Tampa Catholic High School, Tampa, Florida
Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Reports to: School Principal
Job Summary: Tampa Catholic High School, a vibrant educational community rooted in the Catholic faith, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Finance. The Director of Finance will oversee the financial operations of the school, ensuring fiscal responsibility, strategic financial planning, and compliance with all regulatory requirements. This position is critical to supporting the mission of Tampa Catholic by providing sound financial stewardship to enable the growth and sustainability of the school’s educational programs and facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
Develop and manage the school’s annual budget in collaboration with the Principal and the Finance Committee.
Monitor and report on the financial performance of the school, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Oversee cash flow management, investments, and reserve funds to ensure the financial stability of the institution.
Ensure all financial records are accurate, up-to-date, and in compliance with diocesan, state, and federal regulations.
Strategic Financial Planning:
Provide strategic leadership in financial planning, forecasting, and analysis to support long-term institutional goals.
Advise the President and the Board of Directors on financial matters, including risk management, investment strategies, and capital project financing.
Lead the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and financial controls.
Participate as an active member of the school’s Leadership Team.
Prepare, report and attend the quarterly Consultative Board Meetings.
Prepare, report and attend the bi-annual School Trustees Meetings.
Audit and Compliance:
Coordinate and manage the annual financial audit, ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of all required documentation.
Ensure compliance with all tax regulations, including payroll taxes, sales taxes, and charitable contributions.
Maintain a thorough understanding of all applicable regulations and ensure that the school’s financial practices adhere to best practices and legal standards.
Tuition and Financial Aid:
Oversee the tuition billing and collection process, ensuring timely payments and managing delinquent accounts.
Administer the financial aid program, including the evaluation and award process, in collaboration with the Director of Enrollment Management and Principal. Develop and implement strategies to maximize enrollment and retention through effective tuition pricing and financial aid policies.
Supervision and Collaboration:
Supervise the Business Office staff, ensuring that financial operations are conducted efficiently and in alignment with the school’s mission and values.
Collaborate with the Development Office on fundraising initiatives, grant management, and donor relations to ensure proper accounting and stewardship of funds. Serve as a liaison to the Diocese of St. Petersburg on financial matters, ensuring alignment with diocesan policies and directives.
Technology and Systems:
Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial management software and systems to streamline operations and improve reporting capabilities.
Ensure the integrity and security of financial data through appropriate technology solutions and internal controls.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required; CPA or MBA preferred.
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in financial management, preferably in a nonprofit, educational, or religious organization.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Experience in managing audits and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.
Personal Qualities:
Practicing Catholic preferred, with a deep understanding of Catholic teachings and values.
Integrity, discretion, and a high level of professionalism in handling confidential information.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strategic mindset. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on achieving results.
