Join us as we move into our new facility! Innovative, state of the art, over $17M new campus under construction with a target completion date of November 2024. Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Development & Donor Relations is responsible for developing, organizing, and executing Suncoast Humane Society’s annual fundraising plan in support of the mission. Additionally, this role is responsible for overseeing the organization’s marketing and communications plans ensuring alignment of all internal and external messaging to the fundraising plan. S/he will develop dynamic fundraising and communications strategies to deepen donor relationships and expand the base of support.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Through applying best practices, develops and executes the organization’s annual fundraising plan and applicable capital campaigns, including appeals and events.
· Qualify caseload donors that represent the highest giving potential for the organization.
· Create reasonable financial goals for each donor, based upon the donor’s giving pattern and capacity.
· Create a personal contact and “ask” plan that takes into account the individual donor’s interest, motivations, giving patterns and ask preferences for each donor in a timely and cost-effective manner, while retaining and upgrading donors.
· Manage the performance measures and budget for contractors that provide donor database management, social media services and marketing/communications support.
· Manage gift processing, ensuring prompt gift acknowledgement and appropriate donor recognition.
· Secure project and organizational information and create and write effective offers, proposals and “asks” that align with the needs of the organization.
· Oversee a limited number of special events and special event planning with the support of the special events committee and other Suncoast Humane Society staff.
· Assist with the grand opening of the new campus focusing on areas of marketing, communications and donor cultivation and stewardship.
· Secure and analyze information that can be sent back to donors to report on how their money was utilized.
· Create timely reports that reflect caseload and performance.
· Manage people, process, deadlines, and budget while adhering to the policies and procedures of Suncoast Humane Society.
· Interact with peers, subordinates, and management in a constructive and positive manner, while problem solving when necessary, in a proactive manner.
· Build relationships in the community to create awareness and engagement in Suncoast Humane Society’s work.
· Manage media and public relations efforts to promote and grow the organization’s programs.
· Maintains oversight over all fundraising activities including major gifts, grants, special events, and capital campaigns.
· Manage a “moves management” system and donor database, through which prospects are actively identified, qualified, cultivated, solicited, and stewarded.
· Works with the CDO, CEO and Board of Trustees, including the fundraising and finance committee, on all development-related activities.
· Coordinate and engage other staff and Board of Trustees to ensure messaging is effective as spokespeople, ambassadors, and fundraisers.
Qualifications:
· A passion for Suncoast Humane Society’s mission, vision, and values.
· Bachelor’s Degree, CFRE or ACFRE accreditation is preferred.
· A minimum of 5 years of progressively successful fundraising experience.
· Proven experience in creating and executing fundraising plans, donor cultivation and grant writing.
· Proven track record of raising funds from diverse sources, including major gifts and annual giving from individuals, planned giving programs, foundations, corporations and government agencies.
· Clear communication and diplomacy with board, government, and community agencies.
· Experience in communications, marketing, and public relations.
· Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills.
· Proficient with donor management software and databases.
· Experience managing contractors and vendors with key performance measures and within budgets.
· Excellent interpersonal skills as a team player; at ease with a wide range of constituents.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, Canva, Little Green Light, and Google Suite.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
· A willingness to work positively as part of a small, hands-on team, which is integral to the success of our mission.
