Charlie Imbergamo

MA, CFRE

A committed lifelong learner and a genuinely curious people-person, Charlie Imbergamo has 30 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, primarily serving in the education and pastoral ministry fields before transitioning to a career in capacity building, training and development. He was appointed the Nonprofit Leadership Center’s CEO in July 2023 after serving as director of strategic programs.

Before joining the Nonprofit Leadership Center, Charlie served as the founding president and CEO of the first Cristo Rey Network School in Florida, a college preparatory high school and corporate work-study program for underrepresented youth in East Tampa. Charlie has served in several executive leadership roles and on various boards of directors in New York, New Jersey, Texas, and Florida. He volunteers for various organizations around the community, serves on his HOA board, and currently serves on the BayCare Behavioral Health Board.

Charlie Imbergamo is a life long learner and seasoned leader with a three-decade career in the nonprofit sector, demonstrating a passion for education, pastoral ministry, and community service. Currently serving as the CEO of the Nonprofit Leadership Center since July 2023, Charlie initially joined the organization as the Director of Strategic Programs in September 2019. His extensive experience includes executive leadership roles in New York, New Jersey, Texas, and Florida, where he served on various boards of directors.

Before assuming his current role, Charlie held the distinguished position of Founding President and CEO at the first Cristo Rey Network School in Florida, pioneering a college prep high school and corporate work-study program for underrepresented youth in East Tampa. His commitment to community service extends beyond his professional responsibilities, as evidenced by his volunteer work with various organizations, including his current role on the BayCare Behavioral Health Board.

Charlie’s journey into educational leadership, management, and fund development began with his background as a teacher, coach, and youth minister, where he engaged with teens and young adults. A New York native, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, New York, and a master’s in educational leadership from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. Additionally, Charlie earned an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame and is certified in both organizational and individual assessments.

A Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) since 2012, Charlie’s commitment to professional development and excellence is evident. Outside of his professional pursuits, he enjoys good food, music, and theater, often spending quality time on the water with family and friends aboard his boat, Seaquel. He is a animal lover and “Dad” to Coco (the dog) and Rigoletto “Rigo” (the cat). Proud to call Tampa Bay home, Charlie embodies authenticity, living by his college motto: “Esse Non Videri” – to be is not to seem to be.
