Dawning Family Services (DFS), formerly the Alpha House of Tampa, has been serving those experiencing homelessness since 1981. Until recently, DFS offered emergency shelter and support services to only pregnant women and single mothers with small children. In 2018, the Board approved a new mission to reflect the agency's desire to address the growing need to provide housing and support services to all families facing homelessness and housing instability. Now, DFS provides stability for hundreds of families with minor-aged children in Hillsborough County—those who are homeless AND those at risk of becoming so—supporting them on their paths to long-term economic security and wellness. DFS provides supports through our four, family-centered components: an emergency bridge housing program for homeless families with minor children; a prevention program for families unstably housed or otherwise at risk of homelessness; a rapid rehousing program to provide financial assistance to support and stabilize families struggling to maintain or obtain housing; and an employment services program to prepare and connect high-barrier parents to employment and job skills, as well as, job development. To learn more about Dawning Family Services, please visit www.dawningfamilyservices.org. |
