Position Description: Studies show there is a high correlation between employment and mental wellness issues. This position will provide support, guidance, information, resources, and referrals to program participants. Our Success Strategies Navigator will help people plan and pursue their career goals to overcome barriers to success. The navigator may work with individuals, groups, or organizations to identify interests, skills, and values; develop a plan of action; and monitor progress over time.
Duties & Responsibilities
– Assist clients in identifying and exploring their career goals, skills, and interests.
– Conduct phone screening and walk-in assessments for potential new clients.
– Develop and implement an individualized action plan for each client that includes short- and long-term goals.
– Assist clients with intake process and scheduling of workshop and counseling services.
– Provide information about job search strategies, resume writing, interviewing, networking, and other topics related to career development.
– Research and identify local community resources.
– Provide information about local resources for staff and active clients.
– Connect clients with both internal and external community resources, such as job training programs, educational opportunities, and financial assistance.
– Help clients navigate the public benefits system and connect them with government agencies and other organizations that can provide assistance.
– Follow up with clients after they have been placed in a job to ensure they are adjusting well and meeting expectations.
– Maintain detailed records of all client interactions and services provided.
– Conduct outreach activities to promote the Counseling & Wellness Program and recruit new clients.
– Perform administrative tasks, such as preparing reports and maintaining program data.
– Assist receptionist with front desk and telephone duties as needed.
– Perform other program duties as assigned for enhancement of program and service delivery needs.
Required Skills and Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in social work, human resources, psychology, or workforce development. Relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
– Experience in assessing work experience, educational attainment, transferable skills, aptitudes, abilities, needs, interests, readiness for employment, and barriers that hinder employment, highly desired. Strong counseling and coaching skills.
– Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Computer literate.
– Proven ability to develop relationships and build trust with clients from diverse backgrounds.
– Excellent active listening, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite, internet research, and social media.
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
– Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus, but not required.
– Ability to demonstrate bachelor’s level competency of oral and written communication while representing the organization and in serving diverse populations.
– The position requires the ability to practice autonomously and with minimum supervision.
– Duties will require some traveling in the community.
– Duties may require some evening and weekend hours and will provide flexibility for attendance of advanced degree studies.
· Must pass Level II background screening.
· Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Internet browsing, and e-mail communication. Able to understand and follow the network security policies and electronic protected information confidentiality and security policies.
· Ability to lift up to 10 lbs., push, pull, stoop, bend, talk, hear, and see.
Salary $40,000 annually
