Description / Details:

The Hillsborough Education Foundation (HEF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the mission to strengthen public education in Hillsborough County through advocacy, investment of resources, and programs that empower every student to achieve both academic and personal success. The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) will develop and execute a comprehensive, sustainable fundraising program as well as lead events for Hillsborough Education Foundation (HEF).

The CAO is responsible for utilizing data and planning to develop fundraising strategies and initiatives that will cultivate existing donors and lead to the acquisition of new donors to raise the resources needed to carry out the organization’s mission. The CAO will provide leadership and direction to internal and external stakeholders through annual campaigns and corporate partnerships. The CAO is responsible for developing, executing, managing and monitoring a fund development strategy throughout HEF and integrating the advancement efforts. The CAO must understand HEF’s goals and be able to demonstrate past achievement in aligning financial development goals with operational outcomes.

This is a full-time exempt position.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively implement a data-driven strategic development plan by building systems and procedures designed to maximize private fundraising revenues.
  • Drives new growth opportunities that leads to increasing corporate, individual, and/or foundation funding.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit steward donors and prospects in collaboration with the CEO and staff.
  • Organize and manage planned giving, annual fund and major gift programs.
  • Identify and implement new revenue streams, with a focus on increasing sustainable unrestricted, private revenue.
  • Lead the creation and growth of a new framework of corporate and individual giving to expand donor base.
  • Manage development operations including, but not limited to, budget, gift processing, database management, donor recognition and acknowledgements.
  • Manage database to capture data and accuracy of lists and maintain complete records.
  • Manage all fundraising communications directly related to gifts, campaigns, fundraising events.
  • Actively participate in community networking, including but not limited to, civic organizations and fundraising associations.
  • Maintain public relations contacts and cultivate public relations relationships.
  • Work closely with the CEO, board members, and leadership team to create and implement detailed development and event strategies aligned with HEF’s mission and objective of growing and retaining membership, developing quality programs, and developing financial resources.
  • Actively participate in the strategic planning of and messaging for all initiatives, issues, plans and ventures.
  • Recruit, train, manage and mentor a multi-disciplined team of development and events professionals.
  • Leads department budgeting and forecasting and effectively manages resources.
  • Lead the coordination of all HEF sponsored and involved events.
  • Work with the CEO to develop and produce regular analytic reports for management that integrates financial progress and trends of activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CEO.

Required:

  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of experience in a leadership position.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Demonstrated nonprofit fundraising success from a variety of fundraising streams.
  • Experience leading successful annual campaigns using fundamental methods of nonprofit fundraising.
  • Budget management experience required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Publisher, Office products (including Excel, Outlook and Word).
  • Raiser’s Edge NXT or similar software experience.
  • Nonprofit experience.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Travel Demands:

  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel to events, which may occur in the early mornings, evenings or on weekends.

Physical Demands:

  • Moderate physical activity involved in an office setting.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Lifting requirements up to 25 pounds.
