Position Description
Compensation: $62,868.26-$78,585.33

Position Summary:

This full-time position is responsible for the accounting functions of the Institute for Strategic Policy Solutions, which is a 501c3 non-profit direct service organization of St. Petersburg College. This position will be responsible for all aspects of financial reporting, record keeping, and maintaining internal controls. Responsibilities include performing complex accounting transactions and reporting that requires the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); preparing journal entries and financial transactions; preparing department budgets; preparing financial statements and reports for internal and external audiences; researching and correcting discrepancies in accounting systems; maintaining the integrity of accounting systems; developing financial projections based on previous activity.  This position requires discretion and judgment with respect to donor and student confidentiality.

Typical Essential Duties

Manages cash flow requirements and reporting; including bank reconciliations
Accounts payable/receivable;
Prepares reports related to budget, investments and banking accounts;
Manages tax and compliance requirements;
Implements and maintains a system of internal controls and security over the Institute’s financial transactions and assets.
Develops and follows standard accounting practices and procedures;
Works with external partners on the annual audit, providing reports, data analysis, and supporting documentation;
Tracks donors/donations made as charitable contributions
Works with internal departments of the College such as Human Resources, Accounts Payable, and Budgeting and is familiar with fund accounting.
Maintains up-to-date records for all the 501c3 accounts and regularly provides related information/reports to the Institute’s leadership.
Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, business or in a related field; Certified Public Accountant in the state of Florida preferred.

Experience:

Five (5) years’ experience in the accounting or auditing field; non-profit experience preferred.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

Applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines;
Account reconciliation methods;
Financial recordkeeping techniques;
Account preparation, review, and control methods;

Computers and related software applications.

Reviewing financial information and drawing valid conclusions;
Applying GAAP principles;
Preparing comprehensive financial reports;
Reading, verifying, reconciling, and approving accounting transactions;
Gathering and managing financial data and making recommendations;

Researching and correcting discrepancies;
Using a computer and related software applications;
Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.

Physical:

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
