NAMI Pinellas County is the local affiliate of the state and the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization. NAMI Pinellas County is contacted by community members and businesses who are looking to access information about mental health and mental health conditions.

Position Summary: NAMI Pinellas County Florida, Inc. is seeking an experienced, self-determined, and visionary leader to fill the position of Deputy Director. The Deputy Director plays a crucial role in supporting the overall mission and objectives of our organization. This leadership position involves overseeing various programs and initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering a positive environment for both staff and members. This position will be an exciting opportunity for a strong leader to work alongside the Executive Director in continuing to build an impactful and efficiently run non-profit organization. The Deputy Director is a senior level staff position assisting the Executive Director in directing and managing internal operations at the physical office and fulfilling the strategic goals of the organization. The Deputy Director must, like the Executive Director, passionately represent the organization’s mission and care enough about the mission to motivate themselves and others to work hard to achieve the mission of mental health for all.

Supervisory Responsibility: The Deputy Director oversees the NAMI Pinellas County Florida Inc. administrative and program staff and works closely with accountants and consultants.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (Business, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field is preferred but not required)
  • 3-5 years of management experience as a senior staff leader of an organization and/or proven success and experience as a Program Director for a nonprofit.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, decision-making, and reporting.
  • Experience supervising staff in a dynamic environment.
  • Current Florida driver’s license.
  • Undergo successful Level II Background investigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise program operations to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Responsible for driving partnership deliverables, implementing strategic initiatives in line with NAMI Pinellas’ strategic plan, and for collaborating closely with the Executive to identify new opportunities to bring awareness to NAMI Pinellas’ mission and increase its reach and impact.
  •  Identify, define, and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities as well as collaborate on the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, local and private funding agencies.
  • Monitor the development and tracking of grant proposals and reporting deliverables.
  • Manage the development, execution, and completion of the NAMIWalks Pinellas County Annual Fundraiser.
  • Maintain comprehensive reporting records of all contract deliverables, and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Assist the Executive Director in the hiring process of staff, including the development and ongoing maintenance of employee handbook, new employee orientation, board orientation, onboarding procedures, and job descriptions.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Accountant in the preparation of annual budgets and keep track of monthly expenditures and income.
  • Ensure that personnel, client, donor, and volunteer files are securely accepted, stored, and that privacy/confidentiality is maintained.
  • Ensure the fidelity, quality and effectiveness of NAMI Signature programs, presentations, and support groups.
  • Evaluate various aspects of program performance and use data to guide future programmatic efforts.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of mental illness, and community resources for individuals and families with mental illness.
  • Foster a healthy work environment with staff and a positive culture that encourages open communication and collaborations.
  • Represent the organization at community activities to enhance the organization’s community profile and position the organization for furthering its mission and visibility

Position Specific

  • In-depth knowledge of the Pinellas County system of care.
  • Proven ability to manage, motivate, supervise and delegate to program staff to assist in duties.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team, with a high regard for accountability and outcomes.
  • Understanding of Florida’s public mental health/substance abuse system, including treatment protocols and system of care principles and values, to assure contractual compliance a plus.
  • Knowledge of mental health conditions as they relate to individuals with mental illness and their families.
  • Experience working with constituent relation management database systems or competence to learn.

General

  • Excellent oral communication and business writing skills.
  • Ability to represent NAMI Pinellas County Florida well with board members, funders, providers, and at community events.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize meeting deadlines.
  • Above-average knowledge of computer software, e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, etc., as applicable to the positio
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director as needed to support the organization.

The salary range for this position is $65,000 – $75,000.
