Nonprofit Management Series: Managing Teams & Succession Planning

CFRE Badge 2024

About This Event

Starting:

Tue, March 19, 2024
In-Person

Research shows that 70% of employee disengagement is due to their manager (Gallup). While moving into your first management role is exciting, it requires learning and developing new skills that aren’t always clear or offered at every organization. In the Nonprofit Management Series, you will learn how to successfully transition into a management role and bring out the best in your team members.

Who should attend?

The trainings in this series are ideal for nonprofit professionals who are new to managing people or managers who would like to deepen their skills in effectively managing people.

* PLEASE NOTE: Managing Teams & Succession Planning is one of three trainings in this series. You may register for the other two trainings in this series by clicking these links:

Managing Teams & Succession Planning

In this session, you will explore the following concepts to strengthen your skills as a manager:

  • Beware the culture of “nice”: Many leaders want to take a positive approach to managing their team members, but some lean so heavily on a “culture of nice” that it creates unintended consequences that can negatively impact team morale. You’ll explore how to achieve the right balance to give team members the clear direction they crave.
  • Five levels of listening: Not all listening is created equal, and not all situations require the same level of listening. Learn to listen for what employees aren’t saying and when to hold off on going into problem-solving mode.
  • Beyond an open-door policy: As a manager, you will never hear everything going on with your team. Learn how to build approachability so that your team members feel safe when they need to share difficult news.
  • Offboarding: It doesn’t have to be a mad scramble when team members leave. Build a plan for these inevitable transitions. Also, learn how to use a departure to reinvigorate your team by reconfiguring responsibilities that leverage current strengths and offering team members new ways to grow.
