On February 10 and 11, 2026, the Nonprofit Leadership Center joined Florida Nonprofit Alliance and nonprofit leaders from across Florida and Tampa Bay to advocate directly with lawmakers in Tallahassee on behalf of nonprofits and the communities we serve.
Three things stood out from our time together:
1. Collaboration is our superpower.
There was a genuine spirit of partnership across nonprofits statewide, including our NLC partners, trainers, and Tampa Bay organizations. Conversations with policymakers were warm, thoughtful, and productive. We had meaningful opportunities to share concerns and learn about legislation that could affect nonprofits, including potential property tax changes.
2. Resilient funding models are essential.
While the tone from legislators felt optimistic, conversations reinforced the importance of diversified funding models in a shifting policy and budget landscape. Nonprofits should actively re-examine their business models and funding sources to ensure they aren’t over-relying on any one area.
3. Convening the sector is a 2026 priority.
The Nonprofit Leadership Center will continue to convene nonprofits and partner with organizations like the Florida Nonprofit Alliance to educate funders, policymakers, and nonprofit leaders, ensuring the best outcomes for nonprofits and our communities.
We left encouraged by the momentum and confident that mission-centered advocacy is a powerful extension of nonprofit leadership.
