Prospect Research Analyst

Job Overview

The Prospect Research Analyst will play a pivotal role in supporting the concluding phase of the museum’s major capital campaign by identifying, researching, and qualifying individual, corporate, foundation, and other prospective donors. Your work will enable the major gifts team to focus efforts on the highest-potential leads. You will, working in partnership with a consultant, maintain donor intelligence systems, conduct wealth and philanthropic screenings, create detailed donor profiles, and deliver actionable insights that drive cultivation and solicitation strategy.

In this capital-campaign context, the researcher will also monitor naming-opportunity fulfillment, campaign progress indicators, the transition of prospects from discovery to closing, and help ensure that the pipeline remains robust as the Museum nears completion of its Centennial Campaign for Expansion.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct in-depth research on prospective donors (individuals, families, corporations, foundations) to assess capacity, propensity, philanthropic interests and alignment with the museum’s mission.
• Use DonorSearch, Raiser’s Edge, wealth screening tools, corporate databases, public records, news and other sources to compile rich profiles.
• Develop, maintain, and update a prospect pipeline database and moves-management system, to include all stages of the process (Identification, Qualification, Cultivation, Solicitation, Closing).
• Prepare briefing materials (e.g., one-page profiles, detailed prospect reports, giving matrices) for leadership, the Campaign Director, and Major Gift Officers.
• Identify “hidden” or emerging prospects by mining event attendance, exhibition patron lists, board affiliations, art-ownership linkages, wealth indicators and philanthropic
• Support campaign strategy by providing analytics: g., segmentation of prospects by giving capacity, timeline to solicitation, geographic clusters, affinity with art/culture giving.
• Collaborate with Development Operations/Advancement Services on data integrity: ensure that research findings and contact reports are properly entered into Raiser’s Edge.
• Engage with senior leadership, board members, and volunteer solicitors by providing briefing packets and support for solicitation visits.
• Track and report on key metrics (number of prospect briefs delivered, number of new prospects added, pipeline value, number of solicitations initiated) and present periodic updates to the Campaign Director.
• Stay abreast of prospect-research industry best practices, ethical standards (e.g., Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement [APRA] guidelines), wealth-screening methodology changes, and fundraising trends in the arts sector.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Demonstrated proficiency in DonorSearch and Raiser’s Edge
• Strong analytic and research skills, ability to interpret financial information, philanthropic histories, wealth indicators, board affiliations, publicly traded holdings, etc.
• Work with Major Gift Officers to manage, coordinate donor cultivation strategies, and oversee prospect research efforts for the Museum
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills: ability to craft concise, compelling profiles and present findings to non-technical stakeholders
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple research assignments, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work autonomously
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate with gift officers, development staff, major donors/volunteers, and leadership
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
• High level of discretion and confidentiality, ability to handle sensitive donor information with integrity
• Knowledge of the arts/non-profit/cultural institution fundraising environment preferred
