We recently asked our nonprofit community to reflect on the word or sentiment they want to guide their 2025.
Resilience.
Consistency.
Discipline.
Excellence.
Focus.
Possibilities.
Open to learning more, achieving more and doing more.
Shorten the distance between thinking about things and doing them.
Each of these sentiments is personal and powerful. But is creating a mantra actually important or helpful when embarking on a new year? Our answer: Absolutely.
Crafting an Intentional Mantra
Crafting an intentional mantra at the beginning of a new year sets a powerful tone for the 365 days ahead, encouraging each of us to strive for our best selves in our personal and professional lives. A personal mantra can also serve as a guiding light to help navigate the unpredictable path of change and self-improvement with purpose and clarity.
When crafting a personal mantra, think about a word or phrase that encapsulates your aspirations for the year ahead. Ideally, your mantra will be applicable to both your personal and professional growth as you seek to develop new skills, deepen relationships, and become a more authentic version of yourself.
Creating a personal mantra is beneficial because it encourages us to be open to new experiences and challenges, fostering resilience amidst uncertainty. Personal mantras can also inspire us to radiate positivity, promoting an uplifting environment for ourselves and those around us.
To make your mantra more than just something you say in January, incorporate it as a daily reminder through journaling, goal-setting, or sharing it with others. Making it part of your everyday routine will reinforce your commitment to these principles.
Embrace change. Cultivate growth. Listen deeply.
I often share my annual mantra at the end of most of the nonprofit training events I teach.
For 2025, mine is: Embrace change. Cultivate growth. Listen deeply.
Now, you give it a try! Here’s to stepping boldly into 2025!
