Meriel Martínez is a freelance trainer and facilitator, specializing in diversity, equity and inclusion. Areas of particular focus for Meriel include professional development, youth empowerment, and LGBTQ+ issues.
Originally from New Jersey, Meriel began her professional journey as an editor for a major educational publisher. Years later, a family move to Virginia prompted a career shift towards areas of long-standing personal involvement. Meriel served as Logistics Coordinator for the Virginia Latino Higher Education Network’s (VALHEN) Hispanic College Institute and as Adjunct Professor in the English Language Program at Virginia Commonwealth University, amongst other endeavors. She then became Education & Training Coordinator at the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities. In that role, she designed and facilitated educational programs on diversity and inclusion for schools, workplaces, and communities across the state. More recently, Meriel moved with her family to Tampa, where she has resumed efforts to serve her community both professionally and as a volunteer.
Meriel received her M.A. in Speech and Interpersonal Communication from New York University. While at NYU, she participated in an intensive summer program based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She studied at both Chestnut Hill College and William Paterson University, where she completed her B.A. in Communication.
